Trades and home services
SEO for contractors, trades and home service businesses
When a furnace quits in January, people search for help and call one of the first names they trust. For plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofing, landscaping and renovation companies, that moment is decided in Google Maps, local results and, more and more, AI answers.
What usually holds trades sites back
- One page listing every service, so Google cannot tell which job you are best for.
- A Google Business Profile with the wrong category, a hidden phone number or no recent photos.
- Service areas that do not match between your site, your profile and your directory listings.
- Slow, image-heavy pages that are hard to use on a phone in a basement.
What I do for trades businesses
- Set up your Google Business Profile as a service-area business, with the right categories, services and areas across the Edmonton region.
- Give each main service its own clear page: what you do, where, and how to book.
- Add structured data so search engines and AI tools understand your services and areas.
- Build a FAQ around the questions customers ask before they call: cost ranges, timing, permits, warranties.
- Set up a simple routine for asking happy customers for reviews.
Which engagement fits
Most trades businesses start with Essentials or the Site Rework. Growth suits companies that want new pages for seasonal services, such as furnace tune-ups in fall or roof inspections in spring.
Questions
Most of my work comes from referrals. Do I need SEO?
Referrals usually end in a search. People look up the name they were given, check your reviews and look at your site before they call. SEO makes sure what they find is clear and current, and helps strangers find you too.
I serve several towns. Should I have a page for each?
Only where you have something real to say about each area, such as the work you do there. Thin pages that swap one town name for another tend to help no one. I will recommend the few that are worth writing.
My site is on Wix or Squarespace. Is that a problem?
No. Most trades sites are on hosted builders, and nearly everything in the engagement can be done there. I will tell you up front about anything your platform limits.
